Current Event: Remembering the Kennedy Assassination November 22, 1963

Everyone's hearts were heavy yesterday as it was the 50th Anniversary of President Kennedy's tragic assassination. It has been difficult to watch the remembrance documentaries this week, but we have been reminded of what an amazing leader our country once had. We have also been reminded of the elegance and grace that first lady at the time Jackie O displayed during that difficult time. Here are a few pictures of the happy couple before the assassination in Dallas, Texas after Air Force one had just landed.

After the President was shot the motorcade rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was then pronounced dead at 1:00 pm. Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as President of the United States at 2:38pm with Jackie Kennedy by his side still wearing her pink wool suit stained with her husbands blood. She was asked numerous times if she wanted to change clothes after the tragedy, and she responded by saying, "I want them to see what they have done." The Coco Chanel knock-off suit is now locked away in a Maryland archive as a cultural artifact along with her blouse, stockings, and handbag she was carrying. According to the archive by request of the Kennedy family, the outfit will be able to be displayed after the year 2103.
